I have no heartwarming testimony.  I’m just a complete pain in the butt that loves a challenge.  I’ve been in kickboxing (Muay Thai) off and on for the last 12 years; which is great for a competitive fighter.  In Muay Thai, the tendency is to compare technique within a certain matchup, where there are legalities and people judging you.  Krav Maga on the other hand, is about survival.  There are no restrictions, no “equal” matchups, no ring, and no point system.  It’s about you getting home to your family.  A perpetrator will not avoid you because you’re having a bad day, were just diagnosed with cancer, your child is in the hospital, or you’re going through a divorce.  Trust me, no one is exempt from an attack.

I have quite a commute to get to STW Krav Maga and my concern was that I would miss too much class to fully grasp all that was involved in the tests.  Fortunately, between having Rube as my instructor (who will go above and beyond to make sure you understand everything that was presented), every staff member at STW (who make me feel as though my success is essential to theirs), and meeting a great accountability partner (Lauren Cortez) I managed to advance to the next level.

On the day of my test, Pete pushed me until I thought I had nothing left.  Turns out, this little girl had quite a bit of fight left!  Let me be the first to say, it’s quite liberating when you finally reach the end of yourself.  The prize at the end was not advancing to the next KM level; the prize at the end was me.
